Mallers Rain over Mariners
It's Albany. It's post-season play. It's raining again. Same tune, same result.
Your NFA champion Albany Metro Mallers welcomed the Brooklyn Mariners to 'The Pit', aka Charlie Leigh Field at historic Bleecker Stadium. By the end of the game, the field resembled its nickname and the Mallers had defeated the RAFL champion Mariners 13-8 in the Harvest Bowl semi-finals.
In a first half hurricane that saw both teams offense drowned to a halt, the Mallers turned to the now vaunted defense and the special teams. Macio Clinton ran back a Mariner punt 65 yards for a 6-0 lead. Then DB Gabe Young picked off a pass in the 3rd to make it 13-0 Mallers. Late in 4th quarter, the M's blocked a Craig Peteson punt into the endzone to cut the lead to 13-8. The Mallers would receive the ensuing kick-off and run out the clock.
The Mallers will next face the winner of the November 22nd Charlestown Townies/Connecticut Giants game. The Harvest Bowl championship will be played on November 29th, at a site TBD.

Lawson named NFA MVP
Albany QB Scott Lawson was named Northeastern Football Alliance Offensive MVP for 2008. Scott's 2,664 yards and 37 TD's were tops in the NFA along with his 128.2 QB rating and almost 65% completion pct. in leading the Mallers to an 8-2 regular season record and the NFA title.
The league also held its All-Star voting and in what can only be described as recognition for a long career come to an end, Syracuse QB Chris Bresnahan was named 1st team all-star for the east squad. Bresnahan had announced his retirement last Sunday after the championship game and Shock management released information that Bresnahan may have torn his Achilles tendon. Lawson was named to the 2nd team. These players will be invited to a proposed All-Star game to be played before the 2009 season.(Teams were limited to 10 nominations)

**LAWSON - 386**
Congratulations to Albany Metro Mallers quarterback Scott Lawson. He has broken the all-time minor league record for most touchdown passes in a career. The record-breaking TD throw was an 80-yard connection between Lawson and WR Deon Champen at 11:58 of the third quarter against Troy on October 4, 2008. Keep a watch as this historic number continues to climb.
